Capacity, not sockets

What is in the void decides how quick a lighting job is. Old containment, redundant cable and someone else's alterations all add time.

Office electrical questions from Surrey businesses
What office managers and facilities managers ask before they book the work in.
Can you work while our staff are in the building?
Usually, yes, by taking one area at a time and agreeing which desks have to be clear on which day. Most office work, including lighting, small power, containment and testing, can be phased so a proportion of the floor stays occupied throughout.
The exception is anything that needs the supply off to a whole floor or the board. That is better done in an evening, at a weekend, or over a shutdown period, and we would rather price it that way than pretend otherwise.
How much disruption should we expect from an LED lighting replacement?
Less than most people fear, if the floor is a suspended ceiling grid and the existing wiring is sound. A like-for-like panel swap in a grid ceiling is quick, quiet and mostly done from a step ladder above your ceiling line.
It gets more involved when the layout changes, when the existing circuits will not take the new arrangement, or when the ceiling is not a grid. We will tell you which of those you are dealing with after the survey rather than after we start.
Can you do the electrics for an office fit-out or refurbishment?
Yes. That covers lighting, small power, floor boxes, containment, distribution, data containment and the alterations that come with a new layout. We work alongside main contractors, fit-out contractors and space planners and are used to a programme where our work sits between the ceiling going in and the furniture arriving.

Our landlord wants an EICR before renewal. Can you do it?
Yes. Periodic inspection and testing of an office installation is routine work for us, and we report it so the observations are understandable to whoever has to act on them rather than only to another electrician.
If remedial work comes out of the report, we price that separately so you can decide what to do and when. Our commercial EICR testing page explains what is involved.
Can you add power for new desks and equipment?
Yes. Additional circuits, floor boxes, desk power, dado and perimeter trunking, and supplies for printers, servers, comms cabinets, air conditioning and kitchen equipment. The usual constraint is not the socket, it is whether the existing distribution has capacity for what you are adding.
That is worth checking before you commit to a desk layout, not after.
Do you work in serviced offices and multi-tenant buildings?
Yes. Those bring their own complications: landlord consent, shared risers, a building manager who controls access, and a supply that may be metered per tenancy. Tell us the arrangement when you enquire and we will factor it into the programme.
