New lighting and small power in a Grade I listed building on Guildford High Street. Period buildings need a different approach, and we have done this work.
Registered & checked
What we understand
Dorking is a market town with a working high street, a lot of independent retail and hospitality, and a good deal of older building stock. Electrical work in period premises is a different job from electrical work in a modern unit, and pretending otherwise is how it goes wrong.
Commercial electrical services
Seven services make up most of our work in Dorking and the surrounding area. Most jobs cross more than one. If yours does, say so when you enquire and we will estimate it as one piece of work.
New circuits, small power, distribution boards, three-phase supplies and full fit-out wiring for commercial premises.
LED replacement and new lighting installations for offices, schools, shops and hospitality premises across Surrey.
Periodic inspection and testing of your fixed installation, with a clear report you can act on and hand to your insurer.
Fault finding, repairs and planned maintenance that keep your premises trading and your staff working.
Emergency lighting installation, additions and periodic testing, with the certification and logbook entries to match.
Partial and full rewires, distribution upgrades and containment renewal, phased so your premises stays open.
Fire alarm installation, extensions, alterations and servicing for commercial and education premises.
Premises we work in
These four premises types make up most of our workload. Each page sets out how we actually approach that kind of building rather than repeating the same copy.
DBS checked electricians working after school, at weekends and through the holidays so teaching is not interrupted.
Lighting, small power, floor boxes and testing in occupied workplaces, phased floor by floor around your staff.
Shop fit-out wiring, display and track lighting, power and repairs, scheduled around your trading hours.
Power to kitchens and service areas, extract controls, lighting and testing for restaurants, cafés, pubs and hotels.
Access and logistics
Dorking sits where the A24 and A25 cross, with the bypass taking some of the through traffic. Reaching the town is easy enough, but the High Street and West Street have real loading constraints, so we plan unloading before we arrive.
The outlying villages, Westcott, Brockham, Betchworth and the Holmwoods among them, are quick from the town but strung out along country roads. For those we would rather do a longer single visit than three short ones.
For anything in a period or listed building, the first visit is worth more than usual, because what is possible is decided by the building rather than by the drawing.
None of this is complicated, but it is the difference between a job that runs to time and one that does not. Ask us about it at estimate stage and it gets built into the price rather than added to it later.

Nearby areas
The villages around Dorking are covered from this page, with the same free estimate wherever you are.
If your premises is out towards the Sussex border and you are not sure, ask. It is usually not a problem.
Working with us
Three steps, and you always know which one you are on.
Send us the premises type, what you need doing and when you need it done. If you have drawings, a schedule or a previous report, send those too.
We look at the installation, agree the scope with you and put it in writing. You get an estimate you can take to whoever signs it off.
We agree dates that suit your operation, turn up when we said we would, and hand over the certification when the work is finished.
Tell us what the job involves and we will come back to you within 24 hours with a free, no-obligation estimate.

Questions we get asked
The questions we are asked most often by businesses in Dorking and the surrounding area.
Yes, and we have. The lighting and small power in a Grade I listed building on Guildford High Street is our work, and it is the photograph on this page.
What matters in a listed or period building is agreeing what is possible before anything is cut. Some routes will not be available, and surface containment or a rethink is sometimes the right answer rather than a compromise.
It depends on the building and on what the work involves. Listed building consent and conservation area rules can apply to things that alter the fabric or the appearance.
We are electricians, not planning consultants, so we will not tell you that you definitely do or do not need it. What we will do is flag where it looks likely, so you can check before rather than after.
Yes. For independent retail and hospitality it is usually the only sensible approach, and we treat it as the default rather than an extra.
Tell us your quietest days and hours at estimate stage so the price reflects how the work will actually be done.
Yes. Capel, Beare Green and the Holmwoods are all on our list and covered from this page.
They are further out along country roads, so we will usually suggest doing the work in one longer visit rather than several short ones. It keeps the cost down for you.
Dorking is one of ten towns we cover with a page of its own. The closest to you are below, and the full list is on our service areas page.
We are commercial electricians in Surrey, and Dorking is where a good deal of our period building experience is relevant. Shops, restaurants, offices and schools across RH4 and RH5 are all work we take on.
